Perhaps the most critical skill for the success of a 21st digital marketing company is the ability to work with data. Tina arrived with supernatural talents in that realm.
Prior to joining the company, she was a Systems Analyst in the Workforce Management department of a multinational BPO company in the Philippines. That's a very official sounding phrase, but basically what it meant was she was responsible for scheduling the work hours of a huge staff for a giant American client's call center. She calculated how many people were needed and who would work when to fill demand. Her company required grueling work hours, a demanding workplace environment, and a long daily commute.
How bad was it? She woke at 4 AM, waited for the bus for an hour, slept on the three-hour ride to work, worked from 8 AM to 8 PM, slept on the three hour bus ride home, ate at home, caught up on chores, slept for a few hours, then did it all again the next day. She lived like this for 8 years! Too many people in the Philippines have similar stories.
She felt her career was stagnant after 12 years. She had become an Excel master, but the work was repetitive, the compensation was capped and unrewarding, and she was continually overlooked for promotions or any sort of mentorship.
